The easiest thing in the world is to make the observation that things are not as they should be. Children should not be separated from their parents. People should not be homeless or hungry. The United States, with 5% of the world’s population, should not use 24% of the world’s energy. People would be better off with more face time and less screen time.
The easiest thing in the world is to make the observation that things are not as they should be. In this fallen world, there is no end to the injustices. The hardest part is actually coming up with solutions; solutions that are practical, affordable and realistic.
It is good to call a thing what it is. If it is evil, call it evil. If it is immoral, call it immoral. If it is an abuse of power, call it that. If it is a perversion of justice, call it that.
Observation is important, but observation is easy. Take the next step and be a part of the solution. Vote, volunteer, write letters, protest, cut wood, quilt quilts, give money to World Hunger, use less energy, and remember that justice begins with you. Be honest, just and compassionate in your dealings with your family, with your co-workers, community members, and with those who you vehemently disagree with.
The easiest thing in the world is to make the observation that things are not as they should be. Don’t flatter yourself with your grasp of the obvious. Work for peace and justice—be a part of the solution.
See you in Church!
