Our Trinity Lutheran Church Constitution has gone through many iterations in the past 73 years. Over the past 30 years the culture and practices of our congregation have experienced considerable change. The Church Council and our staff have been aware for some years that we have been functioning out of compliance with our own constitution. Consequently, our leadership has been looking for the right time to update our constitution, that it would reflect the practice and priorities of our congregation. This year the Church Council, under the direction of President Andy Hough and Vice-President Nancy Treggett, undertook an update to the documents. At the same time, the Endowment Committee was revisiting the TLC bylaws as they pertained to the work and practice of the Endowment Committee.
The documents were revised many times to comply with the ELCA requirements. The new constitution and bylaws were amended and vetted by our church council, our staff, and by the Northwest Washington Synod of the ELCA.
The new constitution and bylaws must come before the congregation at two successive regularly scheduled congregational meetings. On January 25th we will provide copies of the documents and have an initial overview of the changes. Hard copies of the documents will be available for check out from the church office and electronic copies will be available for all online. This will function as the first reading of the constitution and bylaws. On June 7th, at our regularly scheduled mid-year congregational meeting, we will have the opportunity to vote to approve or amend the proposed constitution and bylaws.
This has been a long and arduous process, and I want to offer my sincere thanks to Andy, Nancy, the Church Council, and the Endowment Committee.
