Today’s Word from Deacon Amy

For me, September always feels more like a new year than January. Perhaps this is because most of my life revolves around the academic calendar. September is a season of new beginnings – and new beginnings are filled with hope.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13

Preschool classes begin next week. We had orientation sessions for parents and students this week. It was wonderful to see the building full of joyful kids once again. Parents met with me to learn about the ins and outs of preschool life while their littles got to meet their teachers and spend time with new friends. The classrooms and playgrounds were filled with hope – hope for a year full of learning, growth, faith, and fun!

A week from this Sunday begins the program year at Trinity. September 14th will bring the return of Sunday School, Bible Studies, Sunday Forum, Youth Groups, and many other wonderful activities.

“…but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
_ they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
_ they shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:31

We approach this new year full of hope. We hope that all who walk through the doors of Trinity will encounter God and be moved by the Holy Spirit. We hope that our Sunday School classrooms will be filled with joyful children who are blessed with wonderful teachers sharing stories about God’s love for them. We hope that our Bible Studies will provide opportunities for deep exploration of our faith. We hope that our youth will find a safe community where they are enveloped in love and blessings.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

We hope for a wonderful year, but we do not hope in stillness. Hope, when paired with action, is powerful. We can act in hope by sharing the welcoming spirit of God with all who come through our doors. We can invite our friends and neighbors to experience the loving community at Trinity. We can greet and encourage young families who bring their children to Sunday School. We can join in fellowship and study with our friends, contributing to the conversations and opening our hearts and minds to deepen our faith.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13

We hope with faith, and we act with love.

Join me in faith, hope, and love in this season of new beginnings.

See you at Trinity!
