Today’s Word from Rev. David Bieniek…

As a child I loved dyeing Easter eggs at this time of the year, and the truth is, I still do love dyeing Easter eggs.

The problem is that I was a bit of a perfectionist. No matter how hard I tried, writing with that little wax crayon never turned out right. Those little stickers never stuck right. Whenever I tried to make the eggs half one color and half the other, there was ALWAYS bleed over!

But the worst part was when the egg was cracked from the boiling water. I hated those and always put them in the “ugliest” color.

Then one year I peeled one of these eggs and realized that the crack had allowed the dye to get inside. The normally plain egg white had this beautiful turquoise marbling!

Cracks in our shell are the ways that grace and mercy can get in to us to make us even more beautiful. We can allow these cracks to be places where we allow love, peace, and joy to sink in, marbling us with the beauty that we can find in the world around us.

In this time of sheltering in space, we may be recognizing many cracks around us – cracks in relationships, cracks in our world and governments, and probably cracks within ourselves. Please remember that the same God who told us not to be afraid, and that we would always be loved, is working through all of those cracks to allow that reassurance and love to settle deep into our souls.

We are beautiful! May you embrace your beauty today and may the cracks of those around us (and in the mirror) reveal a deep beauty within each of us.

Be safe and be well!
